Hi, I'm Zara.

I make music, art and hand made goods.

I like to utilize natural sounds and materials, expressions of the ecosystems of which we are a part. I'm interested also in the landscapes that exist inside / what's going on in the quiet mind. Whatever medium I'm working in, I utilize processes that exercise my patience and mindfulness - whether it's making field recordings, spinning yarn, foraging plants, dyeing fiber, knitting, sewing, drawing... These acts become my meditation. Intuition and improvisation are at the heart of my work.

Currently I live in Chicago with my husband Paul, our son Remy and Welsh Corgis Oscar and Lucille.

I'm a graduate of CalArts (MFA - music), Northwestern (BM - horn performance), and Interlochen Arts Academy.
