About

Hi I'm Zara!

I'm a musician and a designer/maker of handmade things. I play the French horn, spin yarn, dye wool and other materials, knit, weave, embroider, draw, paint, take photos... I strive to make objects of the highest quality and craftswomanship. I like to use locally sourced and natural materials in my products. I also like to start with the most raw components I can find, so that I have a hand in as much of the making process as possible and my products are as "from scratch" as they can be.

My husband Paul and I live in the middle of Michigan with our two Welsh Corgis Oscar and Lucille. I like camping, the desertgardening, kayaking, bird watchingroad tripssustainability and good vibes.

I lived in Los Angeles for a while and got my Master's of Fine Art from CalArts. Some cool individuals I've studied with include Wadada Leo Smith,  Gail Williams and Bill Barnewitz at Northwestern University (where I received my Bachelor's of Music degree - cum laude), Corbin Wagner, Bryan Kennedy, and the members of Ensemble Modern at the IEMA summer program. I am a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy.
